About this event
Traditional cultural events, such as the Namsan Beacon Ceremony, are initiatives organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to recreate communication methods from the Joseon Dynasty, introduce the city’s unique traditional culture to residents and domestic and international tourists, and provide opportunities to experience culture. During the Joseon Dynasty, the Namsan Beacon Tower served as a vital communication hub, where beacons from signal towers across the country were ultimately gathered and relayed to the capital. Visitors can watch the Namsan Beacon Ceremony at the Namsan Beacon Station and listen to historical commentary. Additionally, the Boshingak Citizens’ Regular Bell-Ring Ceremony, held daily at noon, is a participatory event that brings together citizens and tourists. At the Octagonal Pavilion Plaza of Seoul Namsan Tower, visitors can enjoy Samulnori performances and traditional martial arts demonstrations. In addition, hands-on programs such as the “One-Day Watchtower Guard Experience” and the “One-Day Beacon Messenger Experience” are also available.
