About this event
Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the “D.FESTA Small Theater Festival” has strived to lead the way toward a better performing arts culture by closely monitoring changes in the domestic production environment and the direction of the performance market. Its goal is to explore new avenues for experimental and creative small-theater productions. Since 2016, the festival has worked to bridge cultural gaps nationwide—beyond just Seoul’s Daehak-ro—through interregional exchanges with cities such as Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan. As a result of its consistent efforts to expand its reach through cultural exchanges with overseas performance groups, this year it will showcase the outcomes of its ongoing international cultural exchanges, including the Asia Joint Creation Project with Asian countries such as Japan, Sapporo, Tokyo, China, and Taiwan, as well as the “Small Theater Festival in Tokyo,” we are now able to tangibly showcase the results of our ongoing international cultural exchanges. Now, to take a step forward as an international festival rather than just a domestic one, it is time to expand the festival’s biennial regional hosting and strive for the globalization of the Small Theater Festival by linking it with festivals in various countries around the world. As a first step toward this, this year’s 〈D.FESTA Small Theater Festival〉, which marks its 20th anniversary, will serve as a springboard to introduce outstanding domestic performances to the world and to gauge and understand international cultural standards.
